Today, we will look at the vocabulary of money in several registers of language. 
 

Money vocabulary in colloquial language:

In colloquial language, we can name money in several ways: Le fric, le pognon, l’oseille, les pépètes, le blé, la thune.

J’ai du fric / Je n’ai pas de fric

Tu as du pognon / Tu n’as pas de pognon

Il a de l’oseille / Il n’a pas d’oseille

Nous avons des pépètes / Nous n’avons pas de pépètes

Vous avez du blé / Vous n’avez pas de blé

Ils ont de la thune / Ils n’ont pas de thune
 

There are also other colloquial expressions to say that we have no money:

Je n’ai pas un rond

Tu n’as pas un radis

Il est fauché ou fauché comme les blés

 

Money vocabulary in everyday language:

In everyday language, we will talk about : d’argent, de finance et de fond

J’ai de l’argent / Je n’ai pas d’argent

Tu as des finances / Tu n’as pas de finances

We also have other common expressions to say that we have no money:

Je suis à court d’argent

Tu es sans un sou

Il est ruiné 

 

Money Vocabulary in Sustained Language:

In everyday language, we will say: une fortune, des ressources.

J’ai une grande fortune / Je n’ai pas une grande fortune

Tu as des ressources / Tu n’as pas de ressources.
 

In the same way, we have some formulas to say that we have no more money in the language:

Il est financièrement démuni 

Nous sommes désargentés.
